믹서에서 곧바로 FireWire를 사용하여 컴퓨터와 연결할 수 있는 최초의 제품은 역시 Onyx입니다. Onyx 1220 1620 1640 믹서에 옵션인 FireWire 카드를 간단히 설치하여 Mac이나 PC에 별도의 컨버터나 오디오 인터페이스 없이 24 Bit / 96 kHz에 이르는 하이 퀄리티의 디지털 오디오 신호를 최대 18 채널까지 전송할 수 있습니다.
Onyx의 고품질 마이크 프리앰프 뛰어난 아날로그 회로는 고품질의 A/D 컨버터를 통해 디지털 변환이 이루어지며 곧바로 FireWire 포트를 통해 컴퓨터로 전송됩니다. 값비싼 오디오 컨버터는 더 이상 필요 없으며 어떠한 컨버터에 비해서 좋은 성능 및 퀄리티를 곧바로 즐길 수 있습니다. 간단히 16개의 마이크를 연결하면 곧바로 입력되는 채널이 컴퓨터에 전송됩니다. 즉 16개의 마이크 입력을 곧바로 디지털 레코딩할 수 있습니다. 또한 믹서의 모니터 기능을 통해서 스테레오 믹스된 사운드를 모니터링할 수 있습니다.
최대 18 채널 사용 – 샘플 레이트 변환 가능
Onyx FireWire 카드는 24 Bit의 디지털 오디오 신호를 최대 18 채널까지 PC 및 맥킨토시에 전송할 수 있습니다. 오디오 소프트웨어에서는 16 개의 개별 오디오 입력이 나타나게 되며 여기에 L/R Mix가 추가됩니다. 오디오 소프트웨어에서의 출력은 믹스된 사운드를 모니터하기 위해서 2 채널이 믹서로 다시 전송됩니다.
컴퓨터에서 믹서로 되돌아 오는 믹스된 사운드는 Control Room 소스 선택에서 FireWire 옵션 버튼을 클릭하여 모니터링할 수 있으며 모니터링 되는 사운드는 헤드폰 출력 컨트롤 룸 및 메인 믹스 출력과도 다시 라우팅할 수 있습니다.
추가적으로 컴퓨터에서 Onyx Control Panel 소프트웨어를 사용하여 아날로그에서 디지털로 변환되는 샘플 레이트를 선택할 수 있습니다. 또한 오디오 소프트웨어에서 곧바로 샘플 레이트를 지정하면 선택된 샘플 레이트가 옵션 카드로 곧바로 지정됩니다. 모두 24 Bit 레졸루션으로 변환되며 사용할 수 있는 샘플 레이트는 44.1kHz 48 kHz 88.2kHz 및 96kHz 입니다.
허브 기능
Onyx FireWIre 카드에서는 2 개의 6 핀 FireWire 커넥터를 사용하여 16개의 채널 및 L/R 믹스 신호를 전송합니다. Onyx 믹서에는 2 개의 FireWire 포트가 있는데 컴퓨터와 연결되지 않은 다른 하나의 포트에는 다른 Onyx 믹서를 연결할 수 있습니다. 즉 데이지 체인(Daisy chain) 연결 방식을 사용하여 Onyx 믹서 2 대를 서로 연결할 수 있으며 이러한 경우 16개의 입력을 2개 갖는 총 32 채널의 입력 시스템을 구성할 수 있습니다. 이러한 방법을 사용하면 아주 높은 퀄리티의 녹음이 가능한 라이브 레코딩 시스템을 구성할 수 있습니다.
Main Mix Trim 기능
Onyx FireWire 카드의 뒷면에는 작은 레벨 컨트롤 놉이 있습니다. 이 놉을 사용하여 컴퓨터에서 믹서로 보내지는 L/R 믹스 신호에 대해서 신호 레벨을 증가시키거나 감소시킬 수 있습니다. L/R 믹스 신호는 메인 믹스 페이더 신호에 맞게 레벨의 조정이 필요할 수 있습니다. 이 놉을 사용하여 오디오 소프트웨어에서 출력되는 오디오 신호의 레벨을 믹서의 다른 입력을 통해 믹서 안에서 믹스되어 출력되는 메인 믹스 페이더의 신호와 비슷한 레벨을 가져야 합니다. 이 기능을 사용하여 보다 편리하게 라이브 레코딩이 가능합니다.
레코딩에 필요한 모든 요소 제공
Onyx FireWire 카드 패키지에는 PC에서 필요한 드라이버 및 컨트롤 패널 프로그램을 포함한 CD가 동봉되어 있습니다. 단 매킨토시의 경우 드라이버나 컨트롤 패널 프로그램이 필요 없이 동작합니다. Core Audio Device에 곧바로 Onyx 콘솔의 모델에 따라서 14 x 2 또는 18 x 2로 곧바로 나타나게 됩니다. 또한 CD안에는 Tracktion 풀 버전이 포함되어 있습니다. 이 소프트웨어를 사용하여 아주 쉽고 간편하게 멀티트랙 레코딩 및 시퀀싱을 즐길 수 있습니다.
결국 Onyx 믹서 한 대와 FireWIre 옵션 하나 그리고 노트북이나 데스크 탑 컴퓨터만 있으면 언제 어디서나 최고의 음질을 사용하여 전문가 이상의 레코딩 또는 작곡 시스템을 구현할 수 있습니다.

The Onyx FireWire Card is a true first. This user-installable 24-bit/96kHz card transforms the Onyx 1220 1620 and 1640 mixers into fantastic-sounding digital audio interfaces capable of sending up to 18 channels of audio to your Mac or PC ?without the need for additional converter boxes or hardware. Thanks to the use of flagship Onyx mic preamps superior analog circuitry and class-leading A/D converters Onyx mixers with FireWire rival the sound quality of dedicated audio interfaces costing many times more. Not to mention the simplicity of plugging in up to 16 microphones and sending them directly from the mixer to your computer... and monitoring a stereo mix back through the mixer.
UP TO 18 CHANNELS W/ ADJUSTABLE SAMPLE RATE
The Onyx FireWire Card allows you to stream up to 18 channels of 24-bit digital audio to your Mac (OSX 10.3.5 or greater) or PC (Win XP). These show up in your audio software as 16 individual audio inputs plus a stereo L/R mix. You can also send two channels of audio back from the computer to the mixer for monitoring purposes.
Audio coming back from the computer is conveniently monitored through the Control Room Source matrix where it is routed to the Phones Control Room or Main Mix outputs.
Additionally you can select the sample rate for the analog-to-digital converters in either the Onyx Control Panel (on the PC) or directly from your audio software (on the Mac ?no control panel needed). Sample rate options include 44.1 kHz 48 kHz 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz at 24 bits.
A HUB OF ACTIVITY
The Onyx FireWire card features two 6-pin FireWire connectors that each supply all 16 channels plus the L/R mix. Having dual connectors allows you to place the Onyx mixer anywhere within a chain of FireWire-equipped devices. You can even daisy-chain two 16-channel Onyx mixers via FireWire and send a whopping 32 mic signals right to your laptop. (PC only; Mac support for mixer chaining coming soon.) This makes for a very high-quality live recording rig that conveniently fits in the back seat of your car.
ADJUSTABLE MAIN MIX TRIM
The Onyx FireWire card has a small rotary knob that provides boost and cut for the L/R mix signal being sent to your computer. Since the L/R mix signal is tapped prior to the Main Mix fader this rotary knob gives you control over the signal level going to your audio software application without affecting your main mix level ?a very convenient feature for live recording.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO GET RECORDING The CD-ROM included with the Onyx FireWire card contains all the necessary drivers for PC plus a software Control Panel. On a Mac just plug in the FireWire cable and Onyx mixers will immediately show up as a 14x2 or 18x2 Core Audio device. (How\'s that for plug-and-play!)
