1. Power Supply
The K1 and K2 use a toroid transformer in the power supply for increased reliability and efficiency. Compared to the switching power supplies used by some manufacturers our toroid design consumes significantly less energy creates less heat which must be dissipated and is more reliable than the complex switching designs. An additional benefit is that the toroid creates virtually no radiated emission problems. The K Series design centers the toroid at the front of the chassis just behind the curved front panel. This position provides an improved center of gravity making the amplifier easier to handle and rack as well as reduces stress on rack rails when transporting.

2. Cast Front Panel
No mere exercise in trendy design K Series amplifiers feature an extremely rugged one-piece cast aluminum front panel. It provides extra chassis strength and rigidity while allowing the toroidal transformer to sit further forward for better balance and handling. The front panel is also an integral part of the K Series\' heat dissipation system.

3. Soft Start
A soft-start feature prevents the amplifier from drawing large amounts of current when first powered up. This eliminates the need for a delayed turn-on sequence when using multiple K Series amplifiers.

4. Integrated Heat Dissipation
In order to dissipate what little heat is generated by the BCA technology the K Series utilizes dual internal heat sinks under the output sections which run the length of the chassis. Combined with the die-cast aluminum front panel which acts as a secondary heat sink and also allows air flow between amps heat is evenly distributed across a large area of the amplifier\'s surface. Under typical operating conditions- this dissipation of heat is so effective even at full output the amplifier surface never exceeds a modest temperature.

5. Input Section
This section incorporates technology used in our acclaimed Macro-Tech 5002VZ touring amplifier and enhances it for improved performance. The result is an input section which is virtually immune to overload. The gain stage a refined and upgraded version from our Studio Reference Series is recording-studio quiet. Unique to the K Series is a seventh order Gaussian 32K low-pass filter. It provides extremely flat group delay response for improved sonic accuracy as well as unusually good square wave response. This low-pass filter also prevents ultrasonic system oscillations.

6. TLC Circuitry
The K Series features a unique Thermal Level Control (TLC) which dynamically and subtly reduces gain only when absolutely required to reduce heat build-up. Unlike other amps which may suddenly "thermal-out" Crown\'s TLC ensures your show goes on!

7 8. Innovative BCA Output Stage
The K Series utilizes novel switched-mode power conversion that obsoletes conventional class-D designs which are hampered by two unsolvable problems: reliability and high distortion levels. Crown\'s Patent-Pending BCA technology solves both of these problems. There are three primary benefits of the Balanced Current Amplifier design:
250 kHz Switching Rate Generates Less Heat
Conventional design wisdom dictates that a 500 kHz switching rate is necessary for 20 kHz audio performance. The BCA design switches at 250 kHz but because of this breakthrough innovation it appears as a 500 kHz rate. This crucial design approach results in a 50 percent reduction of switching and conducted losses. The result is substantially less heat for the amplifier to dissipate and better long term reliability.
No Ripple Current at Quiescence Means Less Noise
Unlike conventional approaches at quiescence in the BCA design equal current goes through both positive and negative output devices and coils. This results in the cancellation of ripple currents and produces
less noise.
Optimal Timing Eliminates "Shoot Through" for Low Distortion and High Reliability
In order to understand why BCA technology improves reliability and reduces distortion levels it\'s important to recognize that all conventional class D output designs operate right at the edge if they are to have acceptable distortion levels. Unfortunately this has a serious impact on reliability and encourages most amp designers to reduce performance in order to achieve better output stage reliability. This in turn results in non-optimal timing and a poor sounding design. Crown resolved the dilemma with the BCA topology that allows optimal timing without the risk of "shoot through" which would result in circuit destruction.

9. Input Flexibility
A "Y" input switch on the rear panel allows you to feed a common audio signal to both channels each having its own level control. When the "Y" input switch and the bridged mono switch are used simultaneously there\'s even more flexibility. The unused XLR or TRS inputs on one amplifier can be used as outputs daisy-chaining to other amplifiers. This can simplify wiring in multiple-amplifier systems.

10. Sealed Chassis
The sealed chassis makes the K Series virtually immune to environmental problems such as dust cigarette smoke stage fog and spilled liquids. With no filter to clean and no accumulation of dust on internal circuitry to remove the amplifier is practically maintenance-free.
